Our second guests will discuss the Important Treatment for Most Deadly Type of Skin Cancer FDA-approved combination treatment targets BRAF-mutant metastatic melanoma.  Metastatic melanoma is the most serious and life-threatening type of skin cancer and is associated with low survival rates. There are a variety of gene mutations that can lead to metastatic melanoma, but the most common is BRAF. Despite recent advancements, many patients with BRAF-mutant metastatic melanoma still face significant challenges managing their disease, and there remains a substantial need for treatments that delay disease progression and impact survival.

Our guest today are Dr. Anna Pavlick, D.O. – Medical Oncologist, NYU Langone.  Dr. Pavlick is the co-director of the melanoma program at the NYU Perlmutter Cancer Center. She is also a professor of medicine and dermatology at NYU Langone Medical Center. Dr. Pavlick has contributed to multiple studies in melanoma and published in peer-reviewed journals. She completed her fellowship in Hematology/Oncology at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, is board certified in medical oncology and received her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from the University of Medicine & Dentistry of New Jersey and Master of Business Administration from Columbia Business School.

 

Gary Larrabee – Patient and Clinical Trial Participant, Mr. Larrabee is a former sports journalist and currently an institutional historian focused on golf history. He has three children and has been with his partner, Anne, for 23 years. Following an initial melanoma diagnosis 10 years ago, he had no evidence of disease for five years until he was diagnosed with Stage IV melanoma in 2013. A molecular test revealed that he had a BRAF V600 gene mutation and his doctor recommended he enroll in the COLUMBUS trial.

 

 

Our last guest is Jim White, nationally recognized registered dietitian nutritionist, American College of Sports Medicine Exercise Physiologist and owner of three Jim White Fitness and Nutrition Studios, three medical nutrition therapy practices and a workplace wellness corporation.
