More than 30 percent of Americans suffer some form of chronic pain. Since opioids are the most commonly prescribed treatment to manage pain and they carry a high risk of dependency and misuse, it’s no surprise we are in the midst of a nationwide opioid epidemic. Imagine taking enough pain medication to treat four terminally ill cancer patients, but nothing seems to help. That was the case for our next guest – Retired Sgt. 1st Class Justin Minyard – who suffered from debilitating chronic pain after searching for survivors from the 9/11 attack. Fortunately, Justin was able to conquer his pain with an alternative treatment.
Joining Justin is his Pain specialist, Dr. Louis Raso from Jupiter Medical Center in Jupiter, Florida, to discuss the startling reality of the opioid crisis and a drug-free treatment option for those struggling with chronic pain. Louis J. Raso, MD specializes in Interventional Pain Management and holds board certifications in both Pain Management and Anesthesiology from the American Board of Anesthesiology. Currently, he is a pain specialist at The Pain Center of Jupiter in Florida.
